Popular Beaches In Bali

Submitted by: Max Renouf

The first picture that comes to everyone’s mind when they hear Bali is blue, tropical waters with clean beaches and why not Bali is blessed with some of the best shorelines in the world. While there are tons of places you can chill along the ocean, some of the beaches are better than the rest. Depending on whether you are looking to check off the popular tourist attraction sites in Bali or trying to escape to a calm quite place, you can pick and choose.

Interestingly, despite its amazing popularity as a perfect vacation destination, Bali has managed to retain some secluded spaces for people looking from quiet and peace.

Mengiat and Geger Beaches:

These are one of the most popular beaches in Bali. They are frequented by many tourists as they are in the most populous and active region of Bali island called Nusa Dua. Mengiat Beach is more populous that the Geger one and it is crowded with hawkers aggressively trying to sell their goods. If you are looking for a more secluded beach, Geger is a better option. It is also one of the few beaches where you can lie down topless to enjoy some sunlight.

Balangan Beach:

This is one of the best natural beaches to chill out in Bali. It does not have fancy hotels, cafes and restaurants dotted along the shore. What you will get though are non-air conditioned huts, small warungs (cafes) selling local snacks and ice creams. This beach is mainly for all the things your kids would love building sand castles, swimming and even surfing. Even if you are a novice you can get many schools and freelance trainers who will take you out for surfing lessons.

Bais Tugal:

The first rule of seclusion is inaccessibility and Bais Tugal is just that. It is locally called the Pantai Kecil or the little beach. It literally is a small beach which is at the end of 500m trek on rocky terrain. If you are willing to brave the short hike, the reward is a very secluded clean beach. You will probably run into other enthusiastic tourists, but no hawkers or any other distractions. You can swim or sunbathe or just lie around watch boats sail in the ocean.

Pantai Pasir Putih:

The name of the beach literally translates to White Sand Beach which is what it really it. The main characteristic of this beach is its white sands the azure waters it is like Caribbean in Bali. This beach is located close the Candidasa. This is also one of the most picturesque beaches in Bali. With two large natural mountains flanking it on the sides and several traditional warungs serving beer and prawns you cannot get a better experience of true ocean side pleasure than this beach.

Bingin Beach:

Some of the beaches in Bali have been overcrowded by developers who build hotels and amusement avenues to tap into the large tourist population. Bingin beach is one of those rare places that is still untouched by real estate giants. It is one of those textbook golden beaches with warm waters and good breeze for surfing. If you are looking for a nice place to just relax and possibly watch surfers perform stunts on the ocean, you must not miss Bingin Beach.

Bali has many more beaches dotted all across the island coastline; each has its distinct look at feel. Some are overdeveloped, but they offer beach access right from the hotel or villa; while others are secluded offering natural beaches in their original state.
